Our house is located at the periphery of Onitsha, with a cluster of other Lilliputian buildings that surround it. It’s a mansion enclosed in white walls that Papa refurbishes every year.
From the window upstairs, we can see a panorama of the city, with children like us playing in the field and chattering. Papa says we have no business out there, that our plays are confined within these white walls. ‘Those vagabonds’ will defile us if we did.
And Omeniko mounts guard, on Papa’s orders. Before Papa, he appears reprimanding, but, in his absence, he mounts us one by one.
