She Smiled With Her Eyes

By April 23, 2019 No Comments

I have never been a happy girl. Some would say I have had a sad existence. Life marked me: scars on my inner thighs from nights that Opondo forced his way through me; a crooked arm from the time I added too much pepper in his omena; sagging eyes from the heaviness of tears I have held back.
But I had my moments of solemn sombre stillness. And now, as I look at the people wailing in black, I comfort them from the picture on the coffin. Look, mama, I am not sad anymore. I am smiling with my eyes.
