Ejike did not see sunlight for 40 days.
He ate only when his mother allowed him morsels.
She fasted him, to make his prayers more effective, his redemption more eminent.
At midnight, she came with a candle to administer prayers.
“I am a new creation. I am reborn.” He repeated it as much as he was told, or as many times as he could before collapsing.
He thought he would die.

“It’s okay my son,” she said. “You’re not gay. God has healed you.”
