My formative years in Africa gave me a sense of community. From hunting trips to cultural market days, ours was a society of communal living.
I recall sitting alongside neighborhood kids as Nana regaled us with moonlight tales under the Kapok tree. Before Spiderman and Captain America came my favorite childhood characters – Mr. Hare and Mr. Tortoise!
Mine was a cheery childhood. There wasn’t a trace of gloom – none could stand the air of festivity. We were far from perfect but contentment brought peace our way.
We are called “the dark lands” but the sun shines brightest in these parts.
